"It's the first of its kind in France": Cannes and Sainte-Marguerite Island will soon host a seminar dedicated to sleep and insomniacs

On June 28 and 29, Fort Royal will host an immersive seminar dedicated entirely to sleep on Sainte-Marguerite Island : around fifteen speakers from diverse backgrounds will offer lectures and workshops to better understand and treat sleep disorders. Claire Thomas, a doctor of science and founder of Objectif sommeil, is the initiator.

Why this seminar?

I myself was a chronic insomniac. I was bounced from one expert to another, between conventional medicines and alternative practices. I needed a place where I could take a picture of my problem, learn about everything that helps sleep, and understand when it works and when it doesn't. This is the first seminar of its kind in France.

What makes this meeting unique?

There are international sleep conferences exclusively for doctors and researchers, or wellness fairs. I wanted something cross-disciplinary. The idea is to convey the latest advances and recommendations for an optimal, safe treatment pathway. The sleep problem is hyper-complex and multifactorial. We need to do things in a very specific order. We don't go see a hypnotherapist, a coach, or a geobiologist if we're potentially at risk of sleep apnea.

How did you design the program?

By developing a truly multidisciplinary care pathway. A sleep psychiatrist will begin by discussing possible medical causes, such as sleep apnea. A psychologist specializing in neuropsychology will discuss various support options, such as cognitive and behavioral therapies. Alternative approaches will then be considered: sophrology, hypnosis, nutrition, coaching, geobiology, art therapy, and more.

A word about the content?

There will be conferences, workshops, short demonstrations from each speaker, moments to experiment freely: tasting brain food with a micronutritionist, sensory experience with the djembe and singing to welcome the night, energizing with yoga, conferences in neuroscience or neuropsychology, thematic coaching workshops, video intervention by a mentalist... There will also be times for meals, relaxation or even free time to visit the underwater ecomuseum.

And your role in all this?

My approach is to feed our brains with information so that they can serve us, rather than being forced to do so. Neuroscience is the foundational building block that oversees everything: how the brain works, its needs, its blockages, its recommendations... It offers a new perspective on sleep. We don't force sleep; we create the conditions for it to return.
